Scientists Have Discovered The First Crack In Antarctica
The size of this iceberg is 1,270 sq km
Scientists have discovered the first crack in Antarctica after nearly 10 years of hard work, which caused a huge iceberg (Iceberg) to break from the ice shelf. The incident took place after a major crack on the ice shelf in November 2020. On Friday morning (26 February), this iceberg was completely broken and separated.
The “North Rift” rift was the most important part of the Brunt ice shelf actively in the last decade. Therefore, scientists of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) had full expectations of its separation. Explain that the size of this iceberg is 1,270 sq km.
BAS director Dame Jane Francis said in a statement, “Our teams were fully prepared for the separation of an iceberg from the Brunt Ice Shelf for years. In the coming weeks or months, the iceberg may move away from the core, or it may remain close to Brunt Iceberg from all four sides. “According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, the iceberg is now swimming in open water.
