After giving birth, one of the most common questions new mothers have is, "When can I have sex again?"
It’s a natural and valid concern, but there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this.
I remember, after my own childbirth, I felt a whirlwind of emotions joy, relief, and an overwhelming sense of responsibility for my new baby.
However, I soon found myself wondering when life could return to normal, and part of that included my relationship with my partner.
The Recommended Waiting Period
Most doctors recommend waiting around six weeks before resuming sexual activity after childbirth.
This is based on the average healing time for the body, especially if you've had stitches or a C-section. Your body undergoes an intense amount of stress during labor, and this period allows your uterus to shrink back to its normal size, the vaginal tissues to heal, and any tears or surgical cuts (episiotomy) to mend.
